SUMMER 2008 WEEKLY CLASSES
June 2nd - July 26th
Ballet Theatre
of New Mexico was founded in 1989 and has achieved recognition as
one of the leading dance institutions in the state. Great responsibilities
accompany this prominence: to train fine young pre-professional
dancers and to bring the vital art of dance to the community.
The development of discipline, strength and stamina and the achievement
of grace in movement are the results of years of intense study.
Though few dancers will follow the road to a professional career
in dance, the discipline and concentration children learn in dance
classes will serve them the rest of their lives, whatever their
future.
To
accomplish these goals, Ballet Theatre offers each student the care,
and attention they deserve. In return, Ballet Theatre demands the
very best effort capable of each student. A dancer's training of
both mind and body must start early.
Ballet
Theatre's Academy is a training school for classical ballet students,
offering a complete curriculum of ballet technique and broadened
by classes in related fields. The ballet syllabus is based on classical
Russian technique and is enhanced by 20th century dance forms and
ideas.
It
is impossible without a great school for Ballet Theatre to achieve
and maintain a great dance company. Ballet Theatre offers young
dancers the unique opportunity to observe its Senior Company in
its daily classes and rehearsal, giving them the inspiration needed
to sustain the years of arduous training ahead. Today's students
are the future of the company -- many as discriminating, enthusiastic
members of the ballet audience and for others as members of the
company.
In the summer of 2007 Ballet Theatre decided to change their
name to Ballet Repertory Theatre. The expansion of the name reflects
this ever growing academy and company.
