More about double hung windows…

If you are planning on replacing the windows in you home, there are many decisions that you will have to make. Sorting through all of the different options that are available can be difficult. A new set of windows offers many benefits to you, but you need to make sure that you make the right choice for your individual situation.

One great advantage that new windows can offer is significant savings on your energy bill. If you have older windows, you may be wasting a lot of energy on heating and cooling. Replacing these old windows with a set of new, energy-efficient windows can produce a great deal of savings over the long run. In many cases, you will save enough to pay for most of the cost of the replacement windows!

Once you have decided to replace your windows, you will have to decide upon the style. One of the most common styles you will see is the double-hung window. You may already have this type of window in your home. If not, you have undoubtedly seen them on other houses.

A double-hung window consists of two window sashes in a single frame. Each sash can be opened separately so that air can come in at either the top or the bottom of the frame. This style of window provides more flexibility since it can be opened in more than one way.

One advantage of double-hung windows is that they are quite effective at preventing air intrusion into your home. The sides of the windows fit very snugly into the track, and the bottom sash is held in place by gravity. This leaves the top as the only place where air can seep into the home, and a good window seal will prevent intrusion in this manner.

Look for a double-hung window that is easy to clean. Good windows will let you tilt each sash individually so that you can easily clean the glass from the inside of your home. This is particularly beneficial for windows that are located on the second or third floor of a home, since you will not have to worry about climbing up a ladder or going out on the roof to clean your windows.

Double-hung windows are a very popular choice with many homeowners, and for good reason. Because of their popularity, they are also usually one of the most affordable options for replacement windows.
